The extremely productive Allerseelen has published yet another album. Those familiar with the band know what to expect: rhythmic tracks about 5 minutes long, defined by strong repetition. The music is somewhere between folk, kraut-rock and industrial. The lyrics are very short and pounding, with the same fragments said over and over. The end result is something that simultaneously annoys and hypnotizes. At first's just disturbing, but then it somehow hooks you on itself. A couple of the tracks, particularly Der Sehnsucht Adlertrotz, remain boring, but the overall effect is nevertheless stunning. And the top tracks, such as Wir träumten voneinander and But a Spark in the Night are very powerful in themselves as well. Hallstatt is Allerseelen at its best, almost on the
level of Flamme (2003). Normally it's reasonable to start
with a band this productive by buying a "best of" -collection,
and only then individual albums. Hallstatt is, however, an exception:
it is an excellent starting point for getting to know Allerseelen's
work. And for people who already like their music, it is an absolutely
mandatory purchase. Jiituomas |
