On this first release, Finnish DATM stays quite close to a Muslimgauze-like feel. There is of course difference from one track to the next, but the general mood is that of collage-style ambient. Much of the material seems rather ordinary at first, but, when given a chance, many of the tracks actually contain a lot of facets. The Gates to the City / Naseem is a good example of this. Some pieces, particularly Inleak / The Voice of Resistance, remain just boring, though. The music contains a recognizably significant set of samples, the number of which grows towards the end, but most of those too have been used well. The final track, Black Fog (Surrounding us), moves smoothly towards the side of heavy electronics, which works as a part of the ep's continuity surprisingly effectively. It would have benefited from a heavier sound, though.

Naseem is by no means a perfect work, but it survives multiple listens well and manages to stay interesting. A very promising debut.

Tällä ensimmäisellä julkaisullaan kotimainen DATM on lähinnä Muslimgauzen tyyppisissä tunnelmissa. Kappaleiden välillä on toki eroa, mutta yleisilmeenä on kollaasimainen ambient. Suurin osa materiaalista vaikuttaa ensi kuulemalta varsin tavanomaiselta, mutta useat raidoista sisältävät hämmentävän paljon sävyjä, kunhan niille antaa mahdollisuuden. Osa, erityisesti Inleak / The Voices of Resistance, jää toisaalta vain tylsiksi. Sampleja on erottuvissa määrin mukana musiikissa, ja niiden esillä olo kasvaa kohti loppua, mutta niistäkin suurinta osaa on käytetty hyvin. Kiekon päättävä raita, Black Fog (Surrounding us) menee jo sujuvasti raskaselektroniikan puolelle, mikä toimii jatkumon osana hämmästyttävän hyvin. Soundi tosin olisi sen kohdalla saanut olla reippaasti tuhdimpi. Naseem ei ole mitenkään täydellinen luomus, mutta kestää hyvin kuuntelua ja säilyttää mielenkiintoisuutensa.
