Ett Skepp is a collaboration project of Mathias Josefson (Moljebka Pvlse) and Jonas Bülow. Their chosen style is minimalist experimentalism with fine rhythmic structure and a really retro feel. It's obvious from the start that the gentlemen are traveling with concepts of musique concrete, despite the fact that there's a laptop-like tone to the sounds at times. This is definitely the kind of music that requires good loudspeakers and a big enough space - or good earphones - because it becomes very flat if there is not enough volume. With proper speakers, however, it is simply divine: a breaking rhythm, flawless echo and loads of the hypnotic timelessness that has always been an important part of Josefson's works. Some tracks, especially Tapiren, aren't quite as interesting all the way, but the stronger tracks carry the whole so well that these too become slower parts necessary for the album. And some of the songs, especially Gräshoppan and Grävlingen work just as well as individual pieces.

So if one is at all into old school experimentalism this album, which is freely downloadable from the label, is a true gem.

Ett Skepp on yhteisprojekti jonka muodostavat Mathias Josefson (Moljebka Pvlse) ja Jonas Bülow. Tyylilajina on hienosti rytmittynyt ja aidon retroisan oloinen minimalistikokeellisuus. Jo heti alusta voi havaita herrojen liikkuvan musique concrèten linjoilla, vaikka soundissa onkin välillä läppärimäistä kliinisyyttä. Materiaali on ehdottomasti suurten kaiuttimien ja ison tilan kamaa, tai hyvien kuulokkeiden, sillä se latistuu pahasti pienillä tehoilla soitettuna. Kunnon kaapeilla soitettuna se onkin puolestaan sitten jumalaisen hienoa: katkeileva rytmi, virheetön kaikuisuus ja runsaasti sitä hypnoottista ajattomuutta jolla on aina ollut oleellinen osa Josefsonin tuotannossa. Aivan kaikki raidat, varsinkaan Tapiren, eivät täysin jaksa kiinnosta koko matkaansa, mutta vahvemmat raidat kannattelevat kokonaisuutta silti riittävän hyvin niin että heikommatkin osat toimivat siihen kuuluvina suvantoina. Osa kappaleista, varsinkin Gräshoppan ja Grävlingen toimivat mainiosti myös itsenäisesti kuunneltuina. Jos siis vanhan koulukunnan kokeellisuus yhtään kiinnostaa, tämä levy-yhtiöltä ilmaiseksi jaettava albumi on ehdoton helmi. Jiituomas
