Haeretici 7o74:ltä on mukana lyhyt ja hämmentävä kansanlaululla varustettu katkelma Riian keikalta toukokuulta 2006. Kappale ei rehellisesti sanottuna todellakaan edusta bändin parhaimmistoa, mutta sopii tämän albumin jatkumoon silti kerrassaan mainiosti. Siniaalto on myös edustettuna liveraidalla. Kyseessä on Helsingissä 2005 nauhoitettu Neuloja, jossa yhdistyvät 70-lukulainen analoginen ambient ja ohuet kilkkeet. Hieno raita, vaikka jättääkin hiukan kylmäksi. Monopolkan TBC on kaoottista cut-up -kamaa, kornein vokaalein (mm. ynisevä nainen) ja kliinisin soundein. Se on ehdottomasti koko levyn heikoin ja tylsin osio. Sadkarma ei sekään ole aivan parhaimmillaan: yksinkertaisen kitarasoundin hajottaminen ei jaksa kauaa kiinnostaa, vaikka se tehdäänkin tyylillä. Levyn toinen keskeinen helmi Pain Nailin ohella on venäläinen Project 503, joka esittää hidasta, karua ja minimalistista kolinasta ja pienistä hajaäänistä rakentuvaa äänimaisemaa. Radiokatveen vanhahtava minimalismi toimii sekin kerrassaan herkullisesti, ja niinpä näistä kahdesta raidasta tulee yhdessä hyvä, pitkä, rauhaisampi kausi ennen kuin Grunt päästetään irti. Tarjolla on erittäin edustava näyte Gruntilta, hyvää raskaselektroniikkaa huudoin, ja se myös asettuu hyvin ympäristöönsä albumilla. Paketin päättää Flower aika tavanomaisella mutta toimivalla hitaalla raskaselektroniikallaan. Yleisesti ottaen tämän kiekon taso on selvästi
alan keskiarvon yläpuolella, mutta levylle valikoituneet kappaleet
toimivat yhdessä niin mainiosti, että niistä saa tässä
ympäristössä vielä paljon enemmän irti. Koko
albumi on siis selvästi enemmän kuin osiensa summa. Vaikka se
ei ehkä sinällään tarjoakaan mitään uutta
tai mullistavaa, on se silti huomattavan hieno ja ehdottomasti hintansa

This album presents tracks from thirteen
of the bands that took part in the Noise vs. Glamour tour in 2006. The
festival was much larger, but this record has material only by artists
from Finland and Russia. It begins with Älymystö's Mielen
Voitelu, a short metal-clanging dominated track that ends just
when one really gets into it. Noises of Russia continues directly
from it, with a quite slow and restrainedly noisy track, much like a rough
version of In Slaughter Natives' works. Hladna does not
present the heavy electronics one would expect, but rather a slow, squeaking
sound collage. All three tracks mentioned above are quite nicely functioning,
quality stuff, but not really special in any way. But after them comes
something else: Pain Nail is about as strong as always before,
in other words: magnificent, even though it does not quite reach the level
of excellence that its earlier hits have. A rough, primitive background
and on top of it some screaming yet clear vocals, that's all that's needed
in this case. Bardoseneticcube's track is very interesting, a noisy,
spiraling piece from the album Toyz-z-z, yet unfortunately
it transforms after the promising start into rather boring, when a female
vocals -like sound is added to the mix.
Haeretici 7o74 take part with a short, confusing track from their concert in Riga in May 2006, a piece with some folk-song included. Frankly put, the track is far from being among the band's finest works, but it does fit the album's continuity extremely well. Siniaalto is also represented by a live track, Neuloja, which was recorded in Helsinki in 2005. It combines 70's-style analog ambient with thin clangs, creating a fine whole that one appreciates despite it not exactly touching its listener. Monopolka's TBC is chaotic cut-up stuff with corny vocals (for example, a whimpering female) and clinical tones, and is definitely the album's weakest and most boring piece. Sadkarma isn't at it's best, either: breaking down a simple guitar sound, even when done with this much style, does not stay interesting very long. The album's second true gem, in addition to Pain Nail, is by the Russian band Project 503. Their contribution is a slow, rough, minimalist soundscape consisting of clangs and tiny dissonant sounds. The old-style minimalism of Radiokatve functions nicely, too, and thus these two tracks create together a nice, long, tranquil period, just before Grunt is let loose. As it happens, there is a very nice piece from Grunt, good heavy electronics with screaming vocals, a piece that also fits in well with the tracks that surround it. The album end with a good, if rather ordinary, slow heavy electronics track by Flower. In general, the material on this album is well above
the average quality of the stuff produced in this field of music. Yet,
even better, the tracks chosen for this album work together so well
that they are all improved by the presence of each other. So this is
clearly one of those compilations that are much more than just the sums
of their parts. While it may not offer anything truly new or revolutionary,
it is nevertheless a fine record and definitely worth the money it costs. Jiituomas |
