Zoomonkin yhteistyö Mother Goosen laulaja-kitaristi Zelig Concreten kanssa on tuottanut hyvin monipuolista tulosta, mutta huomaan pitäväni siitä. Paketeissa on palasia jazzista, vanhan koulukunnan industrialista ja kokeellisemmasta progesta. Yhdistelmä hämmästyttävää kyllä yleensä toimii. Erityisesti Current 93 -henkinen avausraita Bunny & Turtle on vahvaa tavaraa, mistä kiitos kuuluu sopivan laahaaville vokaaleille ja Thomas Schärerin pianolle & mellotronille.

EP:n keskivaiheilla mennään hiukan harhaan, kun lähdetään rockaamaan ilman suurempaa sisällöllisyyttä tai alkupäätä leimannutta draamaa. Nimikappale puolestaan on painostava mutta jää varsin etäiseksi, eikä sen lopussa oleva kikkailu auta asiaa. Levyn lopettava punk-meno puolestaan on täysin riitasoinnussa muiden palasten kanssa.

On Time sisältää luovaa hulluutta, pari mainiota raitaa ja monta ylivenytettyä loppua. Sille kannattaa ehdottomasti antaa mahdollisuus, mutta en usko että kovinkaan moni kuulija pitää useammasta kuin ehkä kahdesta sen kappaleista. Se, mitkä niistä kolahtavat, tulee taatusti vaihtelemaan kuulijasta seuraavaan.

Zoomonk’s co-operation with Zelig Concrete, the singer-guitarist of Mother Goose, has created various results, yet I find myself liking it. The mixture contains pieces of jazz, old school industrial and experimental progressive traditions. Surprisingly, the combination works. Especially the Current 93-spirited opening track Bunny & Turtle is powerful stuff, thanks to the suitably dragging vocals and Thomas Schärer’s piano and mellotron. Halfway to the EP things go a bit astray, when the band starts to rock with neither much depth nor the drama present in the earlier parts. The title track, in turn, is oppressive yet remains distant, and the trickery at its end doesn’t help at all. The wrap-up punk material, at the end, is completely at contrast with the rest of the disc.

On time contains creative madness, a couple of very fine tracks, and way too many over-extended ends. It should definitely be given a chance, but I doubt most listeners will like more than two songs on it. Which, however, will be the appealing ones, is a thing that will also strongly change between one listener and the next.
